Memoir 3, Back of Page 70, The Battle of Chickamauga

"the wires flashed the news of the Chicamauga battle (Sept 19-21 '/63) throughout the South"

The Battle of Chickamauga occurred in southeastern Tennessee when Braxton Bragg’s Army of the Tennessee met William Rosecrans’ Army of the Cumberland. Following the Union success at Chattanooga, Bragg requested reinforcements and retaliated near Chickamauga Creek in a battle that lasted for two days. Bragg was ultimately successful, causing Rosecrans’ army to yield. Due to heavy losses on both sides, Bragg did not follow up on his attack, leading to another Union victory at Chattanooga in November.
